The excitement and interest of the book is that the youngsters hear of a " wild " man living in the neighbouring wood, a wild man who has been known to shake bad boys or even throw them in the river, and out of that mixture of fear and curiosity responsible for so many childish pranks, the four go out to look for him. It is a story of four town children, well-drawn and strongly contrasted characters, of different ages, who go to live at the Farm while their parents are in America but Cherry Tree Farm, except that it gives them their chance to live in the country, is really unimportant. THE CHILDREN OF CHERRY TREE FARM is a book that the majority of young readers of Britain have been unconsciously waiting for.
